What Is Strep Throat?

Common Streptococcal Infections:
Most cases of strep throat are mild and self-limited. However, some people develop severe complications such as peritonsillar abscesses, cellulitis, rheumatic fever, scarlet fever, and septic shock. These complications occur less often in children than in adults.

Signs and Symptoms Of Strep Throat In Toddlers:
Strep throat usually begins with a sore throat, followed by fever, swollen neck lymph nodes, and sometimes a cough. Other signs and symptoms include pain when swallowing, earache, and redness of the face.
Treating Strep Throat In Toddlers:
If your child has strep throat, there are several things you can do at home to help them feel better. First, make sure your child drinks plenty of fluids. This will prevent dehydration and keep him hydrated. Second, give your child acetaminophen (Tylenol) or ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin). These medications work well to reduce fever and relieve pain. Third, apply an ice pack to the back of his head to ease headaches. Fourth, avoid giving aspirin because it can cause bleeding in children who have a history of blood disorders. Finally, call your doctor if your child does not improve after 48 hours.

If you feel thirsty, drink more water than usual. This will help prevent dehydration, which can make your throat hurt even worse. Also, try drinking warm liquids such as tea or broth instead of cold drinks.
